Letting Go of Hustle Culture -> Calling in Soft Life Summer
Have you heard of the “soft life” movement? It’s been called a “trend” for the last two years, but to me it’s a lifestyle. One that I am fully committed to embodying. The basis of the soft life is rejecting hustle culture. It’s about prioritizing your well being + inner peace, living intentionally, and setting boundaries. It’s a redefinition of what success looks like. And it’s a movement that I can see more and more women adopting recently!
As the school year comes to a close, I find myself daydreaming about what I want this summer to look like for our family. Less planning. More flow. Less scheduling. More simplicity. Less stress. More ease. Less hustle. More joy. More presence. More slowing down… I’m calling it: “Soft Life Summer.” And after this past month, I can’t think of anything more appealing!
If you’re a parent of school aged children, May is always a crazy, full month. Our May was a bit of a blur between baseball tournament games, planning of teacher gifts, prek graduation, end of year parties, and social events. I don’t know about you, but I’m someone who is prone to overcommitting, overdoing, and subsequently burning out! I simply do not have the capacity to keep up with the generators of the world. Knowing this about myself, I do my best to plan ahead for these busy times and include more self care practices to soothe my nervous system and recharge my energy.
If you’re curious what that looked like, here’s what I did in May to balance the action and stress: I got a massage for Mother’s Day. I took a few extra yoga classes. I upped my meditation time by listening to my meditations in the car between events. I went to a soundbath. I joined a mastermind on neuroscience/brain rewiring (learning recharges me!). I started a new book on spirit babies that I can’t put down called “A Cosmic Bond.” And I received a beautiful energy healing session from one of my dear soul sisters.
A few years ago, I would have had a ton of mom guilt about taking so much time for myself to recharge. I would have felt guilty asking my husband to take over bedtime by himself multiple nights. I would have felt guilty about spending so much money on myself. And I would have felt guilty that I was doing all those things instead of what I “should” be doing.
Now I know that there’s absolutely nothing to feel guilty about, because filling my cup also fills my family’s cup. The mother is the heart of the family nervous system. If I’m stressed and running on fumes, the entire family suffers. No one benefits from having a mother who’s a martyr. Cultivating peace in my mind + body + spirit is not a luxury - it’s a non-negotiable! There have been four meditations this month that have been integral for me in cultivating my inner peace + calm (two of which are brand new!)
Introducing the Meditation Bundle: Peace + Calm + Relaxation. These meditations are for you if you’ve been feeling stressed, run down, anxious, or simply in need of a little self care. These meditations are also for you if you need help in the sleep department, as they are incredibly relaxing for your nervous system + mind! Each meditation has been designed to gently bring you back into coherence, peace, and harmony.
You can also purchase them individually (but you save $5 with the bundle): Peace Bubble Meditation, Body Scan: Release Stress & Anxiety, Affirmations For Inner Peace & Calm, Evening Progressive Relaxation. Oh and a pro tip for all the toddler mamas: Play the Affirmations for Inner Peace & Calm during toddler tantrums on your headphones and thank me later. :)
Wishing you a soft life summer full of ease, joy, and presence with your loved ones! <3
